Eat Sustainably

90% of our fish stocks have already collapsed, or on the verge of collapsing. Overfishing, illegal fishing, juvenile catch and by-catch are destroying our oceans’ ecosystems. Some species like the highly coveted Pacific Bluefin Tuna that one often sees in high-end sushi restaurants might not survive the massive catch rates. Other species, such as Orange Roughy have already collapsed.

Get informed about which fish species are sustainably caught. When eating fish at a restaurant, be proactive and ask the chef where and how it was caught. The Monterey Bay Aquarium publishes “Seafood Watch”, a guide to sustainable seafood consumption, or, when on the go, use the Blue Ocean Institute’s FishPhone app, a way to text the name of the fish in question and receive relevant information in return.
